Tae Kwon Do Sparring or (kyoruggi) is exciting and at times controversial. Judging and scoring are at the heart of the controversy as is the overall techniques used. Criticisms include "unrealistic fighting techniques" and the concern that the fighting art has moved to mostly a sport. That said, we feel that the competition element is improving all the time and anyone who has competed in sparring will tell you that the risk of injury is legitimate. In that spirit, participants do get exposure to threat of harm. Additionally, it is very difficult to provide a fighting venue that is reasonably safe and TKD sparring does that.

In 2017 the World Taekwondo Federation (WTF) changed it's name to World Taekwondo (WT). The organization is the international governing body for Olympic Taekwondo. This organization interacts with Member National Associations (MNA) like USA Taekwondo (headquartered in Colorado)  the MNA for the USA.
